Allergy season is here!

Allergy season is here! If you are having sinus congestion, sneezing, and itchy eyes, acupuncture and Standard Process supplementation can help. It is also the in between season. A time between summer and fall. A strong earth element is very important to keep the immune system strong. Here are some tips for the next few months.

Acupuncture helps to both calm the body’s flight or fight response to perceived threats in the environment like ragweed and stimulate the immune system. This type of support prevents the body from becoming worn down from the adrenaline surges. Common allergies may turn into a sinus infection or you get depleted, run down and sick. Acupuncture and Tuina medical massage help to open up the nasal passages, calm the body, decrease inflammation and nourish the immune and nervous system.

Other factors in seasonal allergic response is nurturing an alkaline/acid balance, and a strong liver, gallbladder and pancreas. Some people use a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar 2 times a day to correct any imbalance. Some people need to make dietary changes, supplementation and acupuncture to maintain balance when their allergies have been chronic.

Common food irritants such as wheat, dairy, white sugar, peanuts, tree nuts which include walnuts, almond, hazelnut, cashew, pistachio, Brazil nuts should be eliminated during the season.

Also include eggs, corn, shellfish, chocolate, citrus fruits, strawberries, night shades which include tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, pork, artificial flavors, colors and Salicylates which include aspirin, ibuprofen.

Please schedule a consult for supplement recommendations as they are different for every person.

In Chinese Medicine you must have a strong stomach/spleen or earth element to support the changes happening in between seasons. In New England it is now time to start eating the cooked greens again, adding onion, scallions, leeks and root vegetables as we prepare for the fall and winter.

It is also a good time to do a cleanse before the winter months. It was fun eating all the summer foods like – ice cream, crackers and cheese, burgers and fried clams.  Whatever your poison it’s a good time to clean your liver. And Standard Process 21 Day Purification program is the best on the market.

As we leave the month of August,  our energies having been at the surface of the body, we are in our most expansive state. The body has the available energy to cleanse. In September our energy and blood will begin the descent inward, to protect our organs from the cold and we will not be able to cleanse until the spring, until the liver starts its movement and ascension after the winter.

As everyone heads back into the routine of the fall, get back on track and schedule and appointment, a combination of acupuncture and tuina is the best and add in some dietary changes and a cleanse. Your body will love you for it and you will be ready for a beautiful New England Fall.
